| 60 YARD SPRINTS |
|
Description These speed tests will be performed with the use of a speed trap sprint timer on grass to maintain consistency among all testing sites. The athlete will be allowed to choose his starting stance. Time starts upon release of pressure on a foot pad, and time is stopped when the infrared finish beam is tripped. Two attempts will be provided for the sprint tests.
Correlation As with most sports, speed plays a significant role in several aspects of the game of baseball. The 60 yard sprint has been the most recognized evaluation of speed in baseball for years. It is a measure of top speed, while the 30 yard sprint evaluates a player’s ability to accelerate. The 30 yard distance simulates the distance between bases on a standard baseball diamond, which serves as a reliable indicator of a baseball player’s base running potential.
